Are you living with a disability and looking to access support to help achieve your goals? NDIS funding opens a realm of possibilities for people living with disabilities, making a big difference towards accessing necessary support and services for the everyday. We know that sometimes it can be difficult to understand all the information around so if you are looking into funding for NDIS support services for yourself or supporting a loved one here is some helpful information to answer and simplify how the NDIS works, considerations before applying and how to get started.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible Australians (under 65 years of age) who are living with a permanent or significant disability. For many people, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
NDIS funding varies between participants based on personal circumstances and is used to pay for and access the support and services necessary to meet your needs and achieve your goals. Each participant receives a tailored NDIS plan that is developed to access and provide the right supports for you.
A simple guide to applying for NDIS funding:
NDIS Eligibility Checklist
Checking your eligibility is the first step towards accessing the NDIS. You can easily assess your eligibility on the NDIS website by answering a few questions on their Eligibility Checklist.
NDIS Access Request
Your next step is to apply by contacting the NDIA to make an access request. This is your first communication towards becoming an NDIS participant and can be completed verbally over the phone or via a form.
Your access request will ask for information about yourself, your disability, and the impacts on your life. You may also be required to provide additional supporting evidence about your disability including information from your treating health practitioner.
It can take time to collect all the information and supporting evidence however if you need assistance to make your access request, MGM Healthcare is here to help you apply and support you towards accessing the funding you need. You can contact us on (MGM PHONE) or at (EMAIL)
NDIS Planning Meeting
Once you have applied and been accepted into the NDIS a planning meeting will take place with an NDIA representative to explore your goals and needs. It’s a good idea to prepare for your planning meeting by taking some time to think about your existing supports in your day-to-day life. Look at these supports and write them down in terms of informal support such as family or friends, mainstream like community access, and formal supports for instance physical assistance.
Take these notes with you to the conversation as it’s important to clearly communicate your needs, what you would like to achieve, and it will help the NDIS to understand and develop a plan that provides the right supports for you.
You’re also welcome to bring someone along to support you during your planning meeting to help make sure your needs are communicated and understood.
